For the June event, to be held on 11th June, we are proposing to have a lively and thought provoking evening of debate on key industries facing us as a profession, industry and society.
We hope to have a good strong attendance from the many personalities in our region.
Some ideas for discussions
- Are the professional bodies/construction institutes like the DVLA of the engineering world? – With people seeming to focus on getting Chartered in the same way as passing their driving test and doing no more, is CIBSE becoming less relevant to Engineering for most Engineers – especially as there are less people taking to the roads both physically and metaphorically...
- Educating "Generation Y" for the future - How do we ensure that Engineering skills are fostered in our next generations, devloping young peoples minds and attitudes for future innovation, not just repetative delivery.
- Ooops, we’ve done it again...? Go back to pre-crash 2008 and the biggest worry for most employers was finding enough people with the right skills to deliver projects in the timescales and fees available, here we are barely out of the recession and seeming to have the same struggle without the same workload. Skills shortage; have we done it again and what can we do about it?
- Will we ever BIM together? There is a lot of talk about BIM and the benefits, but seemingly few projects that make it worth the investment or give it chance to demonstrate them. Are there BIMefits or is it just a BIM white elephant?
- Nobody understands me… I’m a Chartered Engineer, but I don’t use a spanner, get dirty or drive a van. How can we educate the public about what we do?
-
This house believes the single and childless deserve a work/life balance too - what choices and practices to include everyone?
