Following a successful CIBSE lecture in Bristol Dr Richard Hobday will repeat his presentation and give updates on recent discoveries to confirm that light, and especially sunlight, has a marked effect both on our emotional stability and on our immune systems.
There is growing evidence that the light levels needed to promote well-being in buildings are higher than those required to perform visual tasks. In addition, much of the urban population has inadequate vitamin D levels because of a lack of sunlight.
In this presentation Dr Richard Hobday discusses medical research which supports the ancient principle that sunlit environments can be healthier than those that exclude the sun's rays.
Dr Richard Hobday gave an interesting and challenging talk on the health benefits of daylight (as opposed to just skylight) and the potential adverse impacts of the move to more sealed buildings and the avoidance of direct sunlights penetration.
